Ricky Gervais of ‘The Office’ fame is set to be a guest star on The Simpsons for a second time, as part of an episode based on the Oscars. The comedian was previously on the cartoon show in 2006 – in an episode he also wrote. His new appearance will be a cameo as himself in early 2011.

“I recorded it last week. Didn’t mention it as I don’t like to show off. You know that. It’s a fun episode,” Gervais told comedy website Chortle. He added that the recording session only took an hour, during which he managed to ad-lib and “insult an awful lot of people”.

On appearing on the show he said: “It’s weird that I can talk about popping up in The Simpsons so casually, when I first got into comedy someone asked me what my ultimate ambition was. I said, ‘to get a joke on The Simpsons. I have been a very lucky boy indeed.”

In the 2006 episode, Gervais voiced the part of a British office manager who lived with Marge Simpson during a ‘Wife Swap’-style reality show.  He was invited to become involved by Simpsons creator Matt Groening, who is reportedly a big fan of Gervais’ series ‘The Office’. It was the first time that a British writer had been invited to create an episode.

Daniel Radcliffe, Hugh Laurie and Halle Berry are also on the list of guest stars that are set to appear in the 22nd series of The Simpsons, which begins in September. Read more internet tv news: World Internet TV

Virgin Media has launched the beta version of its media player for desktop and mobile, dubbing it, Virgin Media Player.

Although the Player is still in beta, the first to be able to access the player will be Virgin Media’s XL TV customers who also have broadband with the company, by registering at www.virginmedia.com/player.

Virgin mobile’s pay monthly customers will also be able to enjoy an hours worth of Virgin Media Player on mobile content every day at no extra charge.

Virgin has said that it has a broad selection of content available as part of the beta trial, from stations such as ITV, LIVING, Disney, Cartoon Network Geographic and, following a agreement with MTV Networks UK & Ireland, a selection of MTV, Comedy Central and Nickelodeon shows.

“We continue to explore innovative new ways to bring our customers’ favourite content to them and, with Virgin Media Player, we’re making sure they’re spoilt for choice.”

Sky has Sky Player that it already offers its viewers for the desktop and has a mobile TV app available for the iPhone and iPad.
